Steve Magyera
Cat 4 Cyclist
Steve Magyera
Steve is 34 years old, works in the financial industry, and lives with his beautiful wife Liz in New York City. A member of the CRCA Foundation Cycling team, Steve began cycling competitively in August 2008. Steve skipped through the C-class (Cat 5) scoring several podiums within 5 races and continued on to compete and podium in the B-Class (Cat 4) in the CRCA Central Park Club series of races. In April of 2009, Steve suffered a serious crash while racing in the Quabbin Reservoir road race which gave him a stage 3 AC joint separation, temporarily sidetracking his cycling aspirations. With this setback Steve took 2 months off the bike to heal and then struggled to compete in races and especially sprint finishes because of his injury and lost fitness.

In late August, Steve approached Peter Cummings based on the referral of several teammates. Peter was immediately able to provide race tactics that favored Steve's strengths and which resulted in a top finish in the very next race entered. Further, Peter was able to identify the weaker aspects of Steve's fitness and custom tailor a workout regimen that would bolster these weaknesses in the effort to make him a more well-rounded cyclist. Special attention was given to Steve's persistent injury in the formulation of his workout plan.

Steve was a member of the varsity swim team at the University of Pennsylvania and has competed successfully at the national and collegiate levels and accumulated several records and awards in his swimming career. Having just started cycling he is hopeful to transition to a strong cycling career. Training focus for 2010 include rehabilitating his separated AC joint, increasing muscular endurance, and reducing body weight. Competition goals for 2010 include upgrading to Cat 3, scoring points in the CRCA club races, and a podium finish for at least one out of town race.
