Western Continues Games on Top
On day 2 the ESG Cyclist took the hills. The Boston Road Race is a brutal course with two climbs per 9.6 mile lap. The vertical feet are tough and the riders that raced were tougher. In the women's race the Western Team was depending on Traci Cummings. Traci didn't disappoint. Cat 2 Jenny Ives (Adirondack) got away with Marjolein Schat (Central) the two worked well together while Traci worked with a small group of riders. On the final time up the hill Traci out out sprinted the other women for the Bronze medal. Ives dropped Schat to win the Gold.

In the men's race Western had another dominating day. On the first of seven times up the hill Western placed 10 of 10 riders in the front group of about 28. Then they kept the pressure on. Lance Johnson (Western) applied pressure and dropped the group. Only one rider, Kurt Gustafsson (NYC) was able to try and stay with him. Back in the chase group Western had 4 of 8 riders. Finally, James Thompson and Brendan Housler (Western) applied some pressure and shattered the chase. Johnson waited until the final time up the hill and dropped Gustafusson to solo in while Housler and Thompson came in for the Bronze and 4th respectively.

Also of note, congratulations to Pat Merrick, Craig Polston and Jose Alvergue. All three riders fought hard to grab some points that will probably prove to be crucial.

I would like to thank the people that came out to support the team. We were very well supported and the team appreciated and benefited from your efforts - Vince Lorenz and his wife, Jim Puglisi, Corey Knowles, Denise Hochul. Brian Rohr, Craig Polston's wife.
