Estimate Cardiorespiratory Fitness

Try using our Non-Exercise Fitness Calculator and/or the 6 Minute Walk Test

Maintaining and improving your heart and lung fitness (CRF) is essential for staying healthy and living longer. Research shows that the better your CRF, the lower your risk of death from any cause, and there’s no limit to how much benefit you can get from improving it. In fact, having low CRF increases your risk of dying more than many common health issues like being overweight, smoking, or even having diabetes. Also, a drop in CRF, especially in a measure called VO2 max, can be an early sign of problems like insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, which can lead to conditions like type 2 diabetes. This makes CRF an important tool in catching and preventing chronic diseases early.

Our widget calculators are an easy way to estimate your cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and see where you stand in terms of health risk. You'll get results like VO2 max and MET max, along with a classification of your fitness level. The results are color-coded: green for low risk, yellow for moderate risk, and red for high risk. This information can help you understand your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and other conditions, and guide you on where to improve.

Using the widget is simple—just enter your age, gender, resting heart rate, height, and weight. In the case of the 6MWT you will need distance walked as well. On of the keys to the non-exercise calculator is selecting your Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity (MVPA) level, which refers to activities like brisk walking, running, or cycling that get your heart rate up. One session equals 30 minutes of these activities. By selecting the right MVPA level, you’ll get accurate results that reflect your true fitness and health risk.

PRIOR to the 6MWT: Please watch the video on Signs and Symptoms prior to exercise or completing a 6MWT. Instructional video on 6MWT also available.
